If Freedom Had No Boundaries (Part 1) ✨
This is a new question asked by my professor today, and I’ve never thought about it before. I’ve thought about what it would be like if I got the freedom I need, but not about the entire world gaining freedom. When I started thinking about this, a ton of thoughts came rushing into my mind like waves crashing onto the shore. I wouldn’t call my mind a golden shore though, more like just a handful of sand, because as they say in Tamil, katrathu kai mann alavu 😂. But in this blog, I’ve compiled a few of my thoughts about what would happen if it actually did.
Firstly, I’ll be talking about the advantages of this. Of course, as you all know, the advantages are plenty, but the disadvantages might be even more. I would love to roam the entire world freely because I wouldn’t have to follow any rules, no collecting visas, no paying money for anything. Everything would be free. My dream is to visit every country on the planet, collect a piece of rock, sand, leaf, flower or anything unique from each place as a memory, and also try the famous food of every country.
Of course, we live for food, so that’s the most important part. I would also love to capture countless photos with a camera. It has always been my dream to buy a DSLR. No rules, no stereotypes, no curfew timings, just complete freedom. My only wish would be to try something new every single day.
Secondly, I would love to learn music, or maybe even play an instrument, which has always been on my to-do list but something I never got the chance to do. I would love to not only learn to play instruments but also buy them from different countries and explore the music of each culture. I have a deep thirst for experiencing new cultures, including their traditional clothing as well. Traditional dresses always give us a unique feeling, as if we somehow belong to the past too.
Even if all of this happens, I think I might get tired of it at some point. Though I love travelling because of the freedom it gives me, without challenges, the journey might not feel as sweet or memorable. When travelling becomes a routine, even if you love it, the memories might not feel as special. It’s like dreaming about going to college throughout your school days, but once you actually get there, you slowly start getting bored.
Working hard, scoring good marks, and earning a seat in your favourite university, that struggle is what makes it meaningful. I think travelling should feel the same way. When there are challenges, we remember the journey more deeply, and the happiness we felt stays with us longer. We may feel excited about going to college after school, but that excitement fades if everything stays the same for too long.
But still, I would choose it to be that way.
The third advantage is that I would get a chance to be who I truly want to be. I wouldn’t have to be afraid of what people think about me. I feel like I wouldn’t have the inferiority complex that has controlled me for almost half of my life. I wouldn’t be afraid of being judged, and I would finally get the chance to do what I truly love. The hidden feelings and desires in my heart would start to grow freely.
There are many personal advantages when I think only about myself, but when I consider society as a whole, there are far more issues than the advantages I’ve mentioned so far. I’ll be sharing those in my next blog!! 😊
